BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Following a public complaint on the short message service (SMS) system on Wednesday (Jan 31), the Postal Services Department, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications in a statement clarified that the messages are untrue.
The department said it has never asked for personal and banking information from customers for its service.
The messages read: “Brunei Postal Service: There is no address in the delivery information, your package cannot be delivered” received via short message https:/shirturl.at and “Your information is wrong. The package cannot be delivered.” received via short message https://lihi.cc.
The department advised the public not to share personal and financial information with unknown parties online and to check for its validity first before clicking on the link received via SMS, WhatsApp or any social media platform.
The public must only use the official government website www.gov.bn for any matter involving the sharing of personal information and is advised to always be aware and not be deceived by dubious information.
The department added it will implement security measures to protect customers from unwanted incidents.
The department also requested the public to contact Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) to report on fraudulent activities online. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
