Two killed, eight injured in shell attack in southern Myanmar


YANGON: Two people were killed and eight others injured in a shelling attack in southern Myanmar's Taninthayi Region on Thursday (Dec 21), the state-run Myanmar News Agency reported on Friday.

The attack, reportedly carried out by the People's Defence Force (PDF) using homemade mortar shells, hit a living quarters of construction workers in Launglon town of Taninthayi Region, the report said.

The assailants carried out the attack while making their escape following the burning of the office of a veteran organisation in Launglon town at around 9am local time on Thursday, it said.

The deceased included one male and one female, while the injured included four children. The victims were sent to the Dawei General Hospital for treatment.

Security personnel were taking necessary measures to reinforce stability and peace in the area. - Xinhua
