Over two tonnes of meth, 800kg of controlled chemicals seized in Myanmar


YANGON: Myanmar police force has seized over two tonnes of ice and 800kg controlled chemicals with a street value of more than 51.87 billion kyats (about US$24 million) in Shan State and Yangon Region, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) late Monday (Dec 18).

Acting on a tip-off, police seized 65kg methamphetamine (ice) from a vehicle searched in a joint operation in Ywangan Township in Shan State on Dec 3.

Meanwhile, 865kg ice was seized at a warehouse in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon on Dec. 4.

On Dec 7, 1,140kg ice and 800kg controlled chemicals caffeine were confiscated from a vehicle in South Okkalapa Township, Yangon.

According to the investigations, the seized drugs were being conveyed from Shan State to Yangon Region.

The suspects involved in the cases were charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and further investigation was underway, the committee said. - Xinhua
