Laos, Asean join hands to encourage responsible plastic use

VIENTIANE: Laos and Asean (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries are joining hands in initiating a culture of responsible plastic use, under the Save the World project.

The initiative is a part of activities under the purview of the Asean Committee on Culture and Information (Asean-COCI) financed by Asean Cultural Fund, local newspaper Pasaxon reported on Thursday (Dec 14).

Speaking at a ceremony to launch the initiative, held in the Lao capital Vientiane from Tuesday to Thursday, Director General of the Lao National Institute of Fine Arts under the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Khamsouk Keovongsay, said the project aimed to promote, protect and preserve a safe and sustainable green planet for future generations, as well as heighten environmental awareness and the duty of care for the sustainability of a healthy environment.

The initiative not only raises awareness of the need for environmental protection, but also supports the Asean Strategic Plan for Culture and Arts 2016-2025 and the Asean Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025.

Khamsouk said the programme was a great opportunity for all participants to share best practices, knowledge and experiences in the cultural diversity of each Asean member country, according to the report. - Xinhua
