British sex offender arrested in Rizal: Immigration chief

MANILA: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced the arrest of a British national who was involved in sex offences in the United Kingdom.

Peter Joseph Wheeler, 44, was arrested on Dec 3 in Taytay, Rizal. Aside from being a registered sex offender, Wheeler was also identified as an undocumented alien as his passport expired in 2022.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Wheeler was convicted in 2009 for sex offences against minors, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison.

“I issued the mission order for his arrest after we received information that he is a convicted sex offender who poses a threat to our women and children,” Tansingco said.

“These individuals with a criminal past, convicted of crimes, especially those committed against children do not deserve the privilege to stay in the Philippines,” he added.

Wheeler is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while undergoing deportation proceedings. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
