YANGON: Intense fighting has been reported at Thandata Gate and Police Station in the Mone township, Bago Region, in which the military fought against the Karen National Union (KNU) and PDF members by using its infantry, artillery and air forces, resulting in their retreat, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the State Administration Council (SAC).
“The fighting occurred in Thandata Gate and Police Station in Mone Town of Kyaukgyi Township, Bago Region, since Sunday (Dec 3) morning. Due to the lack of manpower at the police station, police members had to move to a safer place.
"However, the military provided full protection to the battalions being stationed at the Thandata gate and an exit of Kyaukgyi Township. And then, there is an ongoing fighting at the infantry battalion situated on the eastern part of Bago region.
"The military bravely crushed the enemies after combing its infantry units and artillery shells. So, there had been many enemies bodies and they (KNU, PDF) are starting to retreat from the Bago region,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
Currently, some media are spreading rumours that KNU and PDF have taken control of the whole of Mone Town. But, only those groups knew about their losses, plans for withdrawal and injuries, said the SAC spokesperson.
“There are ongoing skirmishes in Namkham and 105-mile of Muse in northern Shan State. The Laukkai Township was attacked with homemade rockets. In Rakhine State, there has been a renewed fighting at Htaronai camp.
"We, the military, systematically fought the enemy with the support of artillery shells and heavy weapons. Many enemies had fallen during our counter-attacks. There had been intense fighting in seven places of Hteegyint Township in Sagaing Region,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
The PDF members are now attacking the townships and villages in Sagaing Region. But, the PDF members are suffering many casualties during the attacks.
“Due to the incitement to fight, they are acting like they don't have to fight or not. The NUG, CRPH and the PDF are now talking about democratic issues but they really committed the destructive acts in Myanmar.
"The multi-party democratic system that is being wanted by the Myanmar citizens is just a lip service. In practical, they committed destructive acts such as murders and rapes, arson attacks on towns and villages, landmines planting and breaking electricity and tele-communications towers.
"If we believe the words of democracy coming out of the mouths of these subversives, I would like to say that we will be destroyed along with these subversives," said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.
As for the entire people, the responsibility of national defense is the duty of all citizens, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun. - Eleven Media Group/ANN
