FORMER prime minister Imran Khan, currently in jail facing myriad charges he says are rigged to keep him from contesting elections next year, was replaced as head of the party he founded, officials said.
Khan established the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996. Although the party did not secure any seats in the subsequent election, it experienced significant growth and emerged as the largest bloc in the National Assembly after the 2018 vote, ultimately leading Khan to become the prime minister.
