1,103kg garbage cleared to commemorate Bandar Seri Begawan anniversary

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Some 1,103kg of garbage was collected along Brunei's Menglait riverbank during a cleaning campaign in conjunction with the 53rd anniversary of renaming of Brunei Town to Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday.

The cleaning campaign kicked off from Gadong Menglait River to Dayang Siti Hamidah Bridge at The Mall, Gadong.

Guests of honour Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan as the Legal and Enforcement Action Group of the Steering Committee on Issues of Cleanliness and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin as chair of the Stakeholders’ Awareness and Stewardship Action Group of the Steering Committee on Issues of Cleanliness unveiled two cleanliness maintenance signages along the Gadong Menglait river.

The campaign saw the participation of personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Public Works Department, Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) alongside building owners and tenants in the area and non-governmental organisations such as Green Brunei and Zero Waste Brunei.

Prior to the campaign, a warm-up session was held, led by personnel from Abdul Razak Holdings.

The campaign aimed to raise public awareness on cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
