Vietnam reports another 56 monkeypox cases; most patients have tested positive for HIV

HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam reported 56 monkeypox cases in seven provinces and cities including one death as of Oct. 31, according to the latest update of the Ministry of Health.

About 63 percent of the infection cases tested positive for HIV, local media reported Thursday. Among those cases, two were from abroad and detected in 2022.

Vietnam is predicted to continue to record new cases not only in southern Ho Chi Minh City but also in other large cities, the ministry said.

The ministry has ordered local healthcare agencies to strengthen supervision at healthcare facilities, borders and communities to early detect infection and provide treatment consultations.

Infection cases must be strictly monitored in order not to spread the disease to the community, the ministry said.

Last month, Vietnam recorded its first death from monkeypox, who was a 29-year-old man from the southern Long An Province. - Xinhua
