Myanmar ready to export frozen meat

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar plans to export frozen meat, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

"We have never shipped frozen meat before. Only dry meat is exported. We are now in the process of officially exporting frozen meat," U Hla Tun, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, told Xinhua on Thursday (Oct 19).

"We are discussing with investors to build standard slaughterhouses, and animal disease control zones have been built in some regions and states," he said.

A large number of slaughterhouses and cold storage facilities that meet international standards are required, he said, adding that if the standards are not met, this process cannot be implemented.

"We are trying to freeze the meat according to the standards and export the meat according to the standards," he said.
