Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng tells UN General Assembly to oppose ‘hegemonism’

China is a champion of the developing world that offers an alternative to the current “hegemonic” system, its vice president said at the UN on Thursday, urging less developed countries to join Beijing in pushing back on Western values and US-led architecture in place since the second world war.

The remarks by Vice-President Han Zheng at the UN General Assembly, delivered in measured tones, did not mention the US by name, using instead a host of oft-used phrases to criticise Washington.
