BANDAR SER BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Adli Awang Abdullah, 43, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months’ jail while Mohamad Zul Sahrin bin Jumat, 31, denied the charge in a motorcycle theft case in the Magistrate’s Court.

Both defendants face charges of stealing a Honda MSX125 “Grom” motorcycle from a house in Kampong Salambigar in the early hours of August 20.

Prosecutor Abdul Musawwir Awang Mahli informed courts that Adli went to pick up his friend in his car to look for stray golf balls at a golf course in Berakas to sell off later.

On the way, the defendant’s car engine overheated.

The defendant pulled over to the side of a road in Kampong Salambigar, took a bottle from his car and scavenged for water to fill his car’s coolant tank.

He came across a house with a water outlet outside and climbed over the gates to approach it.

The defendant filled the water bottle and noticed a motorcycle parked in the garage. He, with the aid of his friend, brought the motorcycle up to the front gate which was locked.

The defendant’s friend took a pair of pliers and they took turns to cut open the gate mesh.

They then brought the motorcycle to the defendant’s car and tied it to the car with a nylon rope.

The defendant drove his car while his friend rode the motorcycle back to the defendant’s house and kept the motorcycle in the kitchen.

The motorcycle’s owner filed a police report after discovering the bike missing. The defendant was shortly arrested and the motorcycle recovered.

Senior Magistrate Azrimah Abdul Rahman adjourned the case against Mohamad Zul Sahrin Jumat following his not-guilty plea. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
