Kawthaung region records highest rainfall in 76 years, triggers landslides and flood


YANGON (Eleven Media Group/Asia News Network): Kawthaung recorded hit rainfall in 76 years, that has triggered landslides, flooding and collapse houses according to locals and data from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Kawthaung.

Kawthaung, which is situated in the southern part of Myanmar, experienced its heavy rain on July 18 and at the same time, faced strong winds at sea. It recorded 9.96 inches - 253 mm of rainfall on July 18, the heaviest single day rainfall in 76 years. It surpassed the 9.13 inches - 232 mm rainfall recorded in July 30, 2021.
