Myanmar exports 260,000 tonnes of rice, broken rice in Q1 of FY 2023-24


YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar exported 261,079 tonnes of rice and broken rice in the first quarter of fiscal year 2023-24, according to data released by the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) on Wednesday (July 5).

The figure was compared to over 550,547 tonnes of rice and broken rice exported a year earlier.

The exports of rice and broken rice in the first three months of the current fiscal year included 122,243 tonnes of rice and 138,836 tonnes of broken rice, showed the data.

The federation said Myanmar has shipped 246,162 tonnes of the exported rice and broken rice via sea routes, and the rest via land border gates.

The country exported rice and broken rice to more than 20 countries including China, Germany, Türkiye, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands during the cited period.

Myanmar earned US$853.472 million from the export of more than 2.2 million tonnes of rice and broken rice in fiscal year 2022-23, showed the MRF data.

In the South-East Asian country, rice is the most cultivated crop followed by beans and pulses.
