Philippine vice president Sarah Duterte visits Brunei schools

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Vice President and Secretary of the Department of Education of the Philippines Sara Zimmerman Duterte as Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Council President visited Seri Mulia Sarjana International School (SMSIS) and Pusar Ulak Primary School on Monday (June 12).

SMSIS celebrated the Philippine Independence Day and the school’s 25th founding anniversary in the presence of the Philippine vice president.

Joining her were Ambassador of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R Tirol-Ignacio and Head Executive Assistant at the Philippine Department of Education Sunshine Charry A Fajarda.

Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin Abdul Rahman and Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim from Seameo were also present.

Sarjana Education Group COO Leonard Lim and SMSIS Principal Chong Wee Meng welcomed the delegation.

The visit included a photo session with school administrators and a tour of the exhibition and classrooms.

Welcoming the delegation at Pusar Ulak Primary School were Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati, Aliuddin and the school’s headmistress Norismawati Ahmad,

The visit began with a group photo session and followed by a cultural dance performance by the school’s dance club.

The vice president and delegation were ushered for a visit to classrooms to observe the school’s reading programme using online resources, the demonstration of teaching and learning of the religious subject, blended learning in mathematics and a guided reading programme.
