TikTok has begun testing its Tako chatbot in the Philippines

SOCIAL media platforms are using artificial intelligence in a variety of ways. After LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat, now it's TikTok's turn to get in on the trend with Tako. This new conversational agent will be capable of recommending videos to users.

Just like Snapchat did with "My AI," TikTok is launching Tako, its new AI chatbot. The Chinese social media giant presented the tool, still in a test phase, to a handful of users in the Philippines.

According to statements on TikTok's Twitter account, Tako will serve to improve search and content discovery functions on the app through recommendations generated by artificial intelligence and will be able to answer questions as well as hold a conversation.

For the time being, TikTok has no plans for a larger-scale launch, it said, indicating that it first wanted to receive user feedback.

"We're in the early stages of exploring chatbot tools with a limited test of Tako with select users in the Philippines.... Tako is powered by a third-party chat assistant and is designed to help make it easier to discover entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok. No current plans for this beyond these early tests, but we're excited to hear your feedback!," TikTok explained on Twitter.

According to a notification captured by screengrab, TikTok was nevertheless keen to point out that the remarks made by the Tako chatbot may contain false information, and to advise users against sharing their private information.

Artificial intelligence-based tools are booming on social networks. LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat have all decided to jump on the bandwagon of the moment.
