Smuggled cigarettes hoarder fined over US$52,000

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): An Indonesian national who hoarded over 90 cartons of smuggled cigarettes at his residence was ordered to settle more than BND70,000 (US$52,000) in fines after pleading guilty to the offence on Tuesday (May 30).

The 56-year-old man would have to serve 16 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.

He was arrested by Customs preventive officers who raided a house at Jalan Singa Menteri, Kuala Belait at 6.41pm on May 25.
