Massive haul of contraband made in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): A massive haul of 3,433 cartons and nine packets of cigarettes as well as 228 bottles and 532 cans of alcohol was made by the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) in an operation targetting areas around Kampong Setia ‘B’ in Kampong Ayer.

The operation took place on May 24 at the waterways of Simpang 192 in Kampong Setia ‘B’, according to the RCED.

In addition to the contraband, three boats believed to be used for smuggling activities were also seized.

All the seized items were brought back to the enforcement office of RCED to be disposed.

The RCED advised the public to comply with the law and avoid being involved in smuggling activities or transporting restricted and prohibited goods.

The possession of contraband goods is an offence under Section 146, Excise Order 2006.
