LABUAN BAJO (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): The youth have an important role in advancing and accelerating the work in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they are more adept to utilising technology.

To this end, Asean has commended the convening of the Asean-Youth Dialogue last April, which aimed to make digital development equitable and inclusive in South-East Asia towards achieving the SDGs.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said this in a decree during the Asean Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of Asean Youth at the Meruorah Convention Centre, Indonesia adding that he was pleased with the continued momentum to provide space and support for the youth to contribute to building a resilient and dynamic Asean.

The sultan encouraged Asean to continue providing opportunities for the youth to harness their potential and contribute towards achieving the SDGs, as well as in realising the Asean Community Vision 2025.

During the session, Asean leaders and representatives of Asean Youth, among other things, discussed the role of the youth as future leaders towards enhancing sustainable development in the region.
