Over 11,000 devotees join Manila Black Nazarene procession on Good Friday

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): Around 11,000 devotees joined the Black Nazarene procession on Good Friday, the city government of Manila said. The four-kilometre procession started at Quiapo Church in Plaza Miranda at 11.13pm on April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and ended at the same location at 12.31am on April 7 (Good Friday).

The procession made its way from Plaza Miranda to Carlos Palanca, Plaza Lacson, Carriedo, Evangelista, Gonzalo Puyat, Quezon Boulevard, Arlegui, Legarda, Conception Aguila, Carcer, Hidalgo, Bilibid Viejo/ G. Puyat, Guzman, and Hidalgo streets.

The motorcade ended peacefully, according to the local government, quoting Manila Police District (MPD) director Police Brig. Gen. Anre Dizon.

On April 6, MPD imposed a strict gun ban for the procession to ensure the safety of residents and devotees who joined the event.
