Vietnam's factory activity down 2.25% in Q1 as exports slump


HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam's industrial output in the first quarter this year fell 2.25 per cent from a year earlier, against a 6.4 per cent year-on-year expansion in the same period last year amid plummeting exports, government data showed on Thursday (March 30).

The country reported a 13 per cent decline in smartphone output to 44.9 million units in the first three months from a year ago, while shipments of smartphones, the largest export earner for the country, dipped 15 per cent to US$13 billion, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
