PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia's anti-drug police have arrested three suspects for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs in two separate cases, seizing a total of more than 26kg of narcotics, police said on Tuesday (March 28).

In one case, police caught two Laotian men in Stung Treng province while they were smuggling 13kg of crystal meth from Laos into Cambodia on Monday, said a Stung Treng provincial police report.

A car that the duo used to transport the drug, which was hidden in a plastic water can, was also confiscated, the report said.

In another case, police arrested a 42-year-old local man in the capital Phnom Penh's Chbar Ampov district on Saturday, seizing 13.3 kg of illicit drugs, the National Police said.

"Some 8kg of crystal meth, 1.13kg of liquid meth, 4.18kg of ecstasy, and 54 grams of ketamine, as well as a Toyota Highlander, were confiscated from the suspect," the National Police reported on its website.

The country has no death sentence for drug trafficking. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80gm of illicit drugs could be jailed for life.

According to the country's Anti-Drug Police Department, Cambodia nabbed 2,790 drug-related suspects, including 30 foreigners, during the January-February period of 2023, seizing a total of 145.7 kg of narcotics.

Most seized drugs are ketamine, crystal meth, methamphetamine pills, heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, and cathinone.
