Myanmar exports over 1,500 tonnes of honey in 11 months

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar exported 1,541.08 tonnes of honey in the first 11 months of the 2022-23 fiscal year, earning over US$2.3 million, the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department said on Wednesday (March 15).

From April last year to February this year, the country exported 1,527.74 tonnes of honey via sea routes and 13.34 tonnes via land borders, the department said.

During the period, Myanmar exported honey to countries including South Korea, Japan, the United States and Singapore, it said.

Most of the country's honey bee farms are in Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway regions and Shan state, producing jujube honey, Niger honey, sunflower honey and flower honey, it added.

The country produces about 7,000 tonnes of honey annually, it said.

Myanmar's exported animal products including honey between April 1 last year and March 3 this year were valued at over $19.81 million.

The country exports agricultural, animal, marine, minerals and forest products, as well as manufactured goods.
