43-year-old Bangladeshi man sentenced to three months’ jail and caning for overstaying in Brunei


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb 12 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A 43-year-old Bangladeshi was sentenced to three months’ jail with three canings on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to overstaying in the Brunei for 402 days since the expiry of his employment pass.

Md Aminur Rahman was detained at an orchard in Kampong Masin at 1.43am on January 12 in an operation conducted by Immigration enforcement officers.

Immigration prosecutor Adi Yusra Adanan revealed that the defendant came to Brunei to work, legally and he was reported fleeing from his employers.

Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner heard that the defendant’s work pass was cancelled by his employers and the defendant did not board the flight home by December 6, 2021. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
