BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Poni Divers made history with Brunei’s first underwater lion dance at open sea at Serasa Beach on Monday (Jan 23), during the second day of Chinese New Year celebrations.

The event began with a traditional Lion Dance performed by Unity Charity Association on land and continued with a team of expert divers dressed in the traditional lion dance costume performing an underwater choreography at Pelong Rock, 35 minutes from Serasa beach.

A total of 14 divers, 10 snorkellers and a freediver witnessed the event.

Poni Divers claimed an entry for the First Underwater Lion Dance in Brunei in the Brunei Book of Records and also received an honourary certificate from representatives from the Brunei Book of Records.

The lion dance is a traditional Chinese performance that symbolises good luck and fortune.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this unique and exciting event to our divers and to the public,” said CEO of Poni Divers Mohd Tahsin Wong.
