BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan 9 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Enforcement officers of the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) recently raided a house in Kampong Mata-Mata, Gadong and seized six packets of marinated lamb meat, one packet of marinated chicken and two packets of marinated beef brought into the Sultanate without a halal import permit.
The case was handed to the RCED for investigation and legal action.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) reminded the public that halal import permits from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council are required to bring halal raw meat into the country. The public must also fulfil the regulations as stipulated by the agencies relating to halal meat importation.
The matter is crucial and must be adhered to ensure that meat brought and sold in the Sultanate, especially to be consumed by Muslim consumers, is ascertained in terms of its halalness, the ministry said.
