HAMBURG, Dec 10 (dpa): German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will take part in a Tuesday (Dec 13) naming ceremony in Kiel for two submarines made by German industrial company thyssenkrupp Marine Systems for the Singapore Navy.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is also expected to attend, the Kiel shipyard announced on Friday.

According to the German government's press office, bilateral talks between the two heads of government are also planned.

In February 2019, the Invincible, the first of four submarines for Singapore's Navy, was christened in the northern German city of Kiel. Boats number two and three are now due to be christened.

With a displacement of around 2,000 tons, the submarines are among the largest new submarine constructions in Germany to date. They are 70 metres long.

According to dpa information, they are equipped with fuel cell propulsion. They are designed for a crew of 28 people. - dpa
