VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): Police in Bokeo province have netted a record haul of 33,500,000 amphetamine pills and 500kg of crystal meth found in a pick-up truck and the homes of two local residents.

Three people have been arrested on charges of drug dealing and trafficking.

Police initially arrested Somvangwa, 34, and Yengyang, 18, a married couple from Homyen village in Tonpheung district after finding 300,000 pills in their pickup truck.

During questioning, Somvangva named two of his associates in the drug trade, identified as Duangkeo and Aloun from Sibounheuang village in Tonpheung district.

Authorities then searched Mr Aloun’s house where they found 200,000 amphetamine pills, 1 bag of ketamine weighing 1 kilogram, and a number of vehicle accessories which they confiscated as evidence.

However, Aloun ran off and evaded arrest.

Police also searched Duangkeo’s house and found 33,000,000 amphetamine pills and 500 kilograms of crystal meth hidden in a storage room.

They arrested another suspect, Barm, 41, from the same village but her husband, who was the main target, fled the scene and could not be located.

Bokeo police are now on the hunt for the other suspects and will arrest them as soon as they have been tracked down.
