Laos records US$166 million in trade deficit in August


VIENTIANE, Sept. 26 (Xinhua): Laos recorded a trade deficit of US$166 million in August 2022, according to a report from the Lao Trade Portal website on Monday.

The total value of trade last month amounted to US$1,02 billion, of which US$427 million were exports and US$593 million were imports, according to the report.

Laos' main export products included gold and gold bullion, paper and paper products, copper ore, wood pulp and paper scraps, rubber, fertilizer, clothing, beverages, sugar and footwear.

The country's main imports included diesel, mechanical equipment, land vehicles, wood pulp and paper scraps, gasoline, beverages, plastic utensils, precious or semi-precious stones, live animals, iron, steel and steel products.

China remained the top export destination for Laos, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.

Meanwhile, the main importing countries of Laos included Thailand, China, Vietnam, the United States and Japan, according to the report. - Xinhua
