Brunei long service employees receive awards, recognition

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) Companies paid tribute to its long service employees in an appreciation night on Saturday (Sept 18).

Some 187 employees with combined 5,700 years of service and an equivalent of 12 million man-hour worth of knowledge and experience were celebrated.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour at the event held at Songket Ballroom of The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong.

He was accompanied by spouse Datin Kalshom Suhaili.

Shell Country Chair in Brunei Darussalam and Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis said BSJV’s people is its most valuable asset and is proud of the diverse and highly-skilled professionals who demonstrate commercial acumen, technical expertise and pride in executing quality work to “future-proof” the BSJV Companies.

“I am personally proud of the resilience I have seen from our colleagues and business partners in BSJV, especially in overcoming the challenges faced during the Covid-19 outbreak.

"Many of you were among the energy frontliners who have had to make difficult compromises and be away from your families for long periods of time. I’d like to thank you for your selfless service and hard work to continue powering the nation,” said Johnsgaard-Lewis.

Jasmein Mohd Said, 52, said in his over 30 years’ experience, he has seen BSJV’s growth. He began his career at Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd as an operator technician in 1991 and is currently Head of Operational Safety under Health, Safety, Security and Environment for Brunei LNG.

Jasmein advised fellow employees to not be too caught up in challenges and focus on solving them instead.

He also urged them to perform their amanah in accordance with the country’s values of ethics, wisdom, honesty and intergrity.

Permanent Secretary of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Azhar Yahya; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Department of Energy at the PMO Mohammad Nizam Ismi; members of the BSJV Companies Board of Directors and members of the BSJV leadership were also in attendance.

The event concluded with the presentation of long service awards to 27 recipients for 40 years of service, 26 employees for 35 years, 100 recipients for 30 years and 34 employees for 25 years.
