Nine dead, five critically injured in truck accident in Myanmar


YANGON (Xinhua): Nine people were killed and five others critically injured on Sunday (Aug 28) in a collision between a heavy truck and a light truck in Mandalay region in central Myanmar, according to the Mandalay Region Police.

The tragedy took place when a 22-wheeler truck carrying cement bags and a light truck carrying 14 passengers collided on Pyin Oo Lwin bypass road near a pine forest, a police officer told Xinhua.

All the dead and injured persons are from the light truck, he said.

Citing the Road Transport Administration Department, state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported that there were 4,158 vehicle collisions in the country in the past year, leaving 5,460 injured and 2,075 dead.
