Alleged rapist arraigned in court in Bandar Seri Begawan; faces 30 years in jail for raping his niece repeatedly


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 25 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Prosecutors on Friday (June 24) arraigned a 22-year-old local man in the High Court over charges of raping his niece repeatedly.

Standing in the dock before Judicial Commissioner Haji Abdullah Soefri Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the defendant denied the charges drafted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fitri Kiprawi, alleging him of raping his niece repeatedly from when she was 12-years-old in 2019 until May 2020.

The court ordered the defendant remanded and fixed trial to run in October.

Each of the four charges against the defendant carry penalties of up to 30 years’ jail and 12 canings. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
