Myanmar authorities seize 4.21 million stimulants


YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities seized 4.21 million stimulant tablets worth 4.21 billion kyats (US$2.27mil) in Yangon Region, the police said in a statement on Tuesday (June 21).

Acting on a tip-off, the combined team of an anti-narcotics task force raided a house located in Hmawbi Township of Yangon Region on June 1 and arrested two suspects along with those stimulants.

According to the investigation, the owner of the house and drugs is a fugitive of the seizure of 147,750 stimulant pills in August 2018 in Maungtaw Township of Rakhine State, and has been detained at the police station of Maungtaw Township on May 16, 2022, it said.

The suspects were charged under the country's law. Further investigations were underway, it added.
