Brunei announces 205 new Covid-19 cases, one patient in Category 4


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 29 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei on Saturday night (May 28) recorded 205 new Covid-19 cases, 204 of which were detected from antigen rapid tests (ARTs) and one from 273 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.

The number of confirmed cases to date is 147,872.

The latest Covid-19 situation in the Sultanate was shared by Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof as the acting Minister of Health, during the daily press conference in the capital.

The minister revealed that there are no cases in Category 5 requiring treatment in the intensive care unit.

However, he added, there is one case in Category 4 requiring respiratory assistance and under close monitoring.

There were no Covid-19 fatalities in the past 24 hours, he added.

Speaking about recoveries and active cases, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Halbi said, ”Some 270 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 146,186.

“There are 1,463 active cases where three cases are receiving treatment in hospitals and 1,460 undergoing home self-isolation.”

As of Friday, the minister said, “28 first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were given to children aged five to 11, which brings the total number of first dose vaccinations administered to 34,293 which is a 79.9-per-cent coverage in the age group.

"Meanwhile, 72 second doses of the vaccine were administered to children in the same age group bringing the total of second doses administered to children in this age group to 19,186 doses or 44.7 per cent of coverage.
