BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 10 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Those experiencing mild flu symptoms or feeling unwell should self-isolate at home even if antigen rapid test (ART) screening shows a negative result, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar.
This was announced by the minister during the daily press conference in the capital, in response to public concern over the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate.
Dr Mohd Isham said the rise in cases is expected due to the festive season, during which celebrants visit relatives and attend gatherings to mark the occasion.
“The ministry recently identified several positive cases with mild symptoms, who tested negative using the ART kit deciding to ignore the symptoms and visit relatives to celebrate Hari Raya.
“In this endemic stage, even if your ART result is negative when you are experiencing symptoms, it does not mean you are truly negative,” said the minister.
Dr Mohd Isham added, “I would like to remind those who are experiencing mild symptoms, such as sore throats, to isolate themselves at home and continue to do daily ART testing for the next couple of days to ensure they are free of the virus.”
Meanwhile, Brunei detected 249 new Covid-19 cases on Monday night (May 9), 236 of which were results from antigen rapid tests while 13 were from RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.
The national tally of confirmed cases is now 143,107, said Minister of Health Dr Mohd Isham while sharing the latest updates on the Covid-19 situation in the Sultanate.
No Covid-19 fatalities were recorded.
The minister said there are no cases in Category 5 requiring treatment at intensive care unit.
However, two cases in Category 4 are receiving respiratory assistance and under close monitoring.
The minister also said 30 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 141,836. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
