Indonesia reports 245 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases, 8 more deaths

JAKARTA (Xinhua):- Indonesia on Friday (Dec 3) confirmed 245 new Covid-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 4,257,243, according to the country's Health Ministry.

The ministry reported that the death toll from the virus in the country rose by eight to 143,858, while 328 more people recovered during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,105,680.

On the country's holiday island of Bali on Friday, President Joko Widodo called on the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police to help the government accelerate the national vaccination programme to anticipate the new variant Omicron.

Indonesia started mass Covid-19 vaccinations on Jan 13 after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.

More than 141.50 million people have received their first doses of vaccines, while over 98.04 million have taken the second doses.
