China’s live-fire drills near its Himalayan border with India, revealed on Sunday by state media, showed the PLA had set up comprehensive training standards specifically designed for high-altitude artillery operations, according to military analysts.
Footage broadcast by China Central Television showed infantry troops from the Xinjiang military district, part of the Western Theatre Command, conducting precision strike drills at an elevation of 5,200 metres (17,000 feet) in the Karakoram mountains.
