Two more clusters confirmed in Brunei as another 105 cases are reported on Sunday (Oct 17)

BANDAR SERi BEGAWAN, Oct 17 (borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei on Sunday recorded 105 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to 10,356.

Two new clusters were also detected, while three clusters have been closed, bringing the total active clusters to 169.

The latest Covid-19 situation was highlighted by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar at the daily press conference in the capital.

Explaining the new clusters, the minister said both clusters are housing clusters accommodating companies’ employees – SWWC Sdn Bhd Cluster and Simla Sdn Bhd Cluster involving 39 cases – while Jaya Hypermart Cluster, 1328 Cluster and 2417 Cluster have been closed after no new cases were detected for 28 days.

The minister said there are 22 additional new cases to eight existing active clusters, who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.

Three imported cases were also recorded on Sunnday All three cases arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Manila via Singapore on board Singapore Airline SQ 146 on October 3.

Meanwhile, 41 new cases are still being investigated to determine the sources of infection.

On recovered cases, the minister said, “168 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 7,850, whereas the total number of active cases is 2,438.

“Among the cases receiving treatment at the National Isolation Centre, eight are in Category 5 and receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit.

“All require artificial ventilation assistance with two cases requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).”

Meanwhile, 27 cases are categorised in Category 4 requiring oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

In the past 24 hours, 5,193 samples were tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 436,396. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
