BEIJING (Xinhua): Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Sunday (Sept 26) congratulated Eric Chu on being elected chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party.

Based on the common political foundation of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence," over the years the two parties have engaged in positive interactions, promoted the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, brought benefits to people on both sides, and achieved notable results, Xi said in his congratulatory message.
