Myanmar reports 1,667 new Covid-19 infections and 70 more deaths - death toll still rising in country

YANGON, Sept. 25 (Xinhua): Myanmar reported 1,667 new Covid-19 infections with 70 more deaths in the past 24 hours, according to a release from the Ministry of Health on Friday night (Sept 24).

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 455,074 while its death toll has risen to 17,413 so far, the release said.

As of Friday, a total of 408,292 patients have recovered from Covid-19 and over 4.2 million samples have been tested for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment for Covid-19 has announced an extension of the closure of schools across the country until Oct. 24, in an effort to continue curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Covid-19 was first detected in Myanmar on March 23 last year. - Xinhua
