Brunei sees decrease in caeses and reports no Covid-19 deaths


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 24 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei has recorded no Covid-19 deaths and a decrease in new cases. The 111 new cases bring the national tally of confirmed cases to 5,697.

The information was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar at the daily press conference on Thursday night (Sept 23).

The minister said there were an additional 28 new cases to six active clusters.

One new cluster with nine new cases was detect. The cluster named Cluster 5214 was a result of mass swabbing conducted on September 22 in Jalan Muara area.

The minister announced that two clusters were declared closed after no new cases for 28 days. The clusters were ABCi Cluster and Cluster 535.

The number of active clusters is now 100.

There are currently 74 cases being investigated to determine the sources of infection.

In terms of recoveries, the minister said, “Some 125 cases have recovered today bringing the number of recovered cases in Brunei to 3,895 while active cases are 1,765.

“Among the cases, eight are in Category 5 and require artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Thirty cases are categorised in Category 4 requiring oxygen and are under close monitoring.”

In the past 24 hours, 4,141 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 virus bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 321,382.

In conjunction with Teacher’s Day celebration, the minister said, “Representing the entire MoH staff, I wish a Happy 31st Teacher’s Day to all teachers and educators in Brunei. May all the services, efforts and noble sacrifices be blessed by Allah the Almighty.”
