JAKARTA, Sep. 21 (Xinhua): The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,263 within one day to 4,195,958, with the death toll adding by 171 to 140,805, the country's Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, 6,581 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of patients recovering from Covid-19 to 4,002,706.
To date, at least 45.85 million people in Indonesia have received two shots of vaccines, while 80.40 million have taken the first doses, the ministry said.
Indonesia is targeting to vaccinate 208.26 million people.
Indonesia also has extended the public activity restriction policy, locally known as PPKM, in Java and Bali, which was previously set to end on Monday, until Oct. 4, a senior minister said on Monday.
"The PPKM is extended for two more weeks in Java and Bali," Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan told a virtual press conference.
The South-East Asian country, which has just emerged from the peak of the Covid-19 second wave triggered by the more contagious Delta variant, now has a positivity rate of less than 2 percent.
The authorities have asked people not to be euphoric and remain cautious as the risk of transmission is still high.
The Indonesian government continues to conduct weekly evaluations to anticipate any rapid changes, Pandjaitan added.
"One of the risks is from abroad since the number of cases Covid-19 cases in our neighboring countries are still high," Luhut told a virtual media briefing.
