Brunei public breathes easy again after vaccine drive resumption in country

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 17 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei resumed the administration of first doses for the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme yesterday, after a brief hiatus.

The recommencement was welcomed by members of the public whose appointments were delayed and rescheduled, owing to the limited vaccine supplies.

Among them was Yanti Haji Tarsat, who finally received her first dose of Sinopharm yesterday, along with her son, Sameer.

“Alhamdulillah, I feel more at ease now. When I heard that the programme would be postponed to a later date, I was quite uneasy, and the rising number of cases further added to my worries,” she told the Bulletin.

Lulu Arisah, an Indonesian domestic helper, also expressed relief at receiving her first dose. “I wish to thank the Brunei Government for extending the COovid-19 vaccine for free to foreign nationals,” she said.

Lulu’s employer, Pengiran Khairul, said, “The efforts and initiatives taken by the Brunei Government in ensuring the continuity of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme is commendable, particularly by the Ministry of Health (MoH).”

Ramli bin Haji Hassan, 62, who was accompanied by his daughter, said, “The reopening of the vaccination programme is a great relief for many.”

Members of the public affected by the postponement now have their appointments automatically shifted and accorded priority in stages.

Potential recipients will also need to regularly check their appointments via BruHealth app or SMS text, to determine their appointment slots and the location of the vaccination centre. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
