HATYAI (Thailand), Sept 11 (Bernama): More than 100,000 people in five provinces in southern Thailand lost their jobs, including 70,000 Thais who returned from Malaysia, following the Covid-19 outbreak that resulted in border closures and blockades on both sides of the border.

Secretary general of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC) Somkiat Polprayoon said the number includes those involved in trading and tourism industries in southern Thailand such as tourist van drivers and tuk-tuk drivers, masseurs, as well as workers at food stalls and restaurants.
