Brunei court fines Indonesian BND89k fine for possession of contraband


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin): The Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (July 29) ordered an Indonesian man to settle a BND89,500 fine after he pleaded guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes.

Andrik Setiawan would have to serve 22 months’ jail in default of payment. Customs prosecutor Awangku Muhamad Afiq Nordin revealed in court that the defendant was found with 114 cartons and two packets of cigarettes in a vehicle when he was stopped in an inspection along Bunut at 6.53pm on July 28.
