Taal volcano update: 95 quakes detected in last 24 hours; Alert Level 3 stays

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): A total of 95 volcanic earthquakes were recorded from Taal Volcano in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Friday (July 23).

Of the 95 earthquakes, Phivolcs said 68 of these lasted for one to 17 minutes.

Taal Volcano continues to emit high levels of volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) with 5,286 tonnes recorded, the Phivolcs added.

Meanwhile, Alert Level 3 remains in effect.

Under Alert Level 3, Phivolcs explained there is magmatic intrusion at the main crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions.
