Philippines reports first local cases of Delta strain and one death

MANILA, July 17 (dpa): The Philippines’ Department of Health on Friday night (July 17) reported the first local cases of the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, including one patient who died.

Sixteen new cases of the Delta strain were detected in the country, including 11 classified as local cases, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
