BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Mohd Yusof attended the Asia Tech x Summit (ATxSummit) via video conferencing on Tuesday (July 13).
Themed ‘Redefining Tech for a Better Future’, ATxSummit was officiated by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat.
In his opening remarks he shared the impact of Covid-19 to the global economy and how it has accelerated digital transformation in all sectors.
He also launched the Singapore Trade Data Exchange (SGTraDex) as an initiative to encourage trusted sharing of data.
During the ATxSummit, Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib participated in a live interactive session with Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo.
The session which carried the theme ‘Digital Transformation in Asean – Opportunities in the New Normal’, was moderated by CNBC’s Martin Soong.
In the live interactive session, the minister shared how digital transformation in Asean is guided by the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025. To strengthen the region’s preparedness for digital transformation, policy and regulatory approaches would need to include technology neutrality, economic, social and security factors.
In addition, technology related challenges such as digital divide, affordability, enabling infrastructures and legislations are among the important considerations needed to create a win-win situation for the government, industry and the society in Asean.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib also emphasised on the importance of inclusivity which entails the need on equipping youth with digital skills in improving their employment opportunities.
Also emphasised was the need to be mindful of the requirements for other members of the society to ensure that no one is left behind in digital transformation.
At the sidelines of the ATxSummit, the minister also held a virtual bilateral meeting with his counterpart Teo.
Both ministers discussed initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of digital economy, cybersecurity, digital government and emerging technologies. - Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network
