The government is expanding the emergency public activity restrictions (PPKM Darurat) to 15 cities and regencies outside of Java and Bali as the country battles the “second wave” of coronavirus infections, driven primarily by the more transmissible Delta variant.
The new restrictions were imposed after the stricter micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM Mikro) had failed to halt Covid-19 transmission in certain regions outside Java and Bali, and more regencies and cities came under the government’s designation of high-risk community transmission.
