Massive contraband found in Brunei electric substation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Authorities seized a massive haul of contraband at an electric substation in Kampong Bolkiah B during a routine patrol on Tuesday.

According to the Royal Customs and Excise Department, 144 bottles and 1, 813 cans of alcohol of various brands along with 293 cartons and six packets of cigarettes were found at the premises of the electric substation number one during a random check.

The owner has not been identified.

Meanwhile, Royal Customs and Excise Department personnel found three packets of cigarettes and drug paraphernalia during a routine inspection in a commercial vehicle exiting Sungai Tujoh control post

The male driver who is a permanent resident was detained and handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation.

The cigarettes were seized by Royal Customs and Excise Department.

The department urged the public to comply with the laws and regulations of the country and avoid being involved in illegal activities.

The possession of contraband is an offence under section 146 of Excise Order 2006. The department urged the public to provide information on smuggling activities. - Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network
